A project built around continuity
One of the most important elements of Barça’s current project is continuity.
Hansi Flick remains in charge after an excellent 2025/26 domestic campaign. Under Flick, Barcelona combined attacking football with an aggressive approach and finished the previous La Liga season with 94 points and 95 goals. The German coach was subsequently named LaLiga’s Coach of the Season.
That gives Barcelona something extremely valuable: a coach who already understands the squad and a group of players who understand his expectations.
The club’s 2026/27 squad has now been finalized following the closure of the transfer window, with official shirt numbers confirmed at the beginning of September.
Youth remains at the heart of Barça
Barcelona’s identity has always been strongly connected to developing its own players.
That tradition remains visible today.
Lamine Yamal has become one of the most recognizable young stars in world football, while players such as Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsí and other academy graduates continue to represent the club’s long-term philosophy.
The current squad also includes several younger players who are pushing toward more important roles.
That combination of established stars and emerging talent could become one of Barcelona’s biggest advantages.
Leadership is changing too
The evolution of the squad is also reflected in Barcelona’s leadership structure.
For 2026/27, Raphinha and Pedri have been selected as the first two captains, while Eric García, Frenkie de Jong and Lamine Yamal complete the five-man captaincy group.
The inclusion of Yamal is particularly significant.
At just 19, he is already being trusted with greater responsibility inside the dressing room. It is another indication of how quickly Barcelona’s next generation is becoming the present.
The challenge ahead
Barcelona’s ambitions are not limited to La Liga.
The Champions League returns to the calendar in September, adding another demanding competition to an already busy season. UEFA’s 2026/27 Champions League campaign will culminate in Madrid on June 5, 2027.
Competing across several competitions requires depth, fitness, consistency and mentality.
Barcelona now have the opportunity to prove that the current project is capable of competing at the highest level in Europe as well as Spain.
The next chapter has already begun.
And for Barça supporters, the most exciting part may be that many of the players expected to write it are still at the beginning of their stories.
